I picked this facility because it was in a small town and has a small town feel. This is important to me because I know my mom is getting the love and attention she deserves. The staff is somewhat different , but they have an excellent staff now! The facility is very warm, clean and loving. I know my mother is being very well taken care of.
The nurses, only a very few, were sarcastic and acted like you were beneath them. One nurse got mad because my 93 year old mother soiled her bed two nights in a row. She told my mother that all the workers had kids and they were going to get sick. Was my mother the only person that this happened to? Further, they rarely came in a timely manner when she needed to go to the bathroom. They woke her up at 6 in the morning only to sit at the table for her meals for one hour and then one hour to get her back to her.

I think most nursing homes are like this. Be careful when choosing one for your family member. At Colonial Oaks Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, we focus on recovery and comfort with individualized short-term rehabilitation and long-term care.
Our entire family was very disappointed in her care. She was having trouble breathing & ask to be taken to the hospital. She was told by a nurse that she wasn’t sick enough to go to the hospital.

There is one day aid that is very sarcastic and told my mother she needed to stay there instead of going home with me. Colonial was a disappointment on so many level. The physical therapy, people were great, the hair dresser was great, the event co -ordinator was good.

She eats in a communal dining hall, and a staff member sits at the table with her, encouraging her to eat. She would tend to isolate herself without this dining-out-in-the-open opportunity, so I am glad they do that. I like the covered patio social area--lots of shade with a wall mural and potted plants on shelves. If I ever have to live in a facility like this, I hope I get a roommate like her. Her family visits every week and takes her out to eat, so they know more about it than I do.
She was left in a wheel chair all day and was dripping in urine from her chair because the help was more concerned about their cell phone activities and watching tv than patient care. The food was horrible Each day I came twice to bring food. My mother had a serious urine tract infection due to total neglect and the aids there would forget to give her the medications prescribed to treat the urinary tract infections. They woke her up at 6 am and forced her to sit at a table all by herself with no newspaper or food until hours later.
This facility should be shut down immediately. My mother was sent here by the social worker at east Jefferson hospital after a fall and hip surgery. I was not even given the opportunity to visit or investigate other options first. My mother’s experience their was the worst experience beyond belief.
As a matter of fact, she loved their food and everything. The people working there were very thoughtful, and very intensive with the people and very caring. It was very clean, and it doesn't smell like the average nursing home. It was more like a little hotel efficiency thing. They could have the food either in their room or in the cafeteria, which ever they would prefer. Colonial Oaks has become the most awful place to send your loved ones.
My experience with this facility is favorable. My relative loves working with the patients, and visiting them. There are always a fair share of them enjoying the cool weather in the courtyard on grounds, and the staff is always more than willing to be helpful and efficient in facilitating requests. The staff organizes events and activities for the patients, and sees to their nourishment and comfort. My mother was in skilled nursing for five weeks. We chose Colonial because it was right behind the hopital and came highly recommended.
I would recommend more security (e.g., a tricky gadget) on perimeter gates, to make it harder for the residents to open from their side, in case their judgement is in decline. My mother had stayed at Colonial Oaks Guest Care. When she was there, she was very content, and I was very happy.

This place and staff is amazing- my wife's dad has been here 3 years and just passed last night. They have aides on every hall and they're right out in the hall from his room. I ate there the other day with my father. We demonstrate this by providing for the emotional, social and cultural needs for each of our residents and their families. Until July 2018 everything was excellent. In July corporate, which is located in another state, made changes that changed the entire facility. Employees are quitting, housekeeping is sloppy, and the food is worse than horrible.
